85. Al-Burooj سُورَةُ البُرُوجِ
Yusuf AliBy the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs
Saheeh InternationalBy the sky containing great stars
«والسماء ذات البروج» الكواكب اثني عشر برجا تقدَّمت في الفرقان.
Yusuf AliBy the promised Day (of Judgment)
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the promised Day
«واليوم الموعود» يوم القيامة.
Yusuf AliBy one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the witness and what is witnessed
«وشاهد» يوم الجمعة «ومشهود» يوم عرفة كذا فسرت الثلاثة في الحديث فالأول موعود به والثاني شاهد بالعمل فيه، والثالث تشهده الناس والملائكة، وجواب القسم محذوف صدره، تقديره لقد.
Yusuf AliWoe to the makers of the pit (of fire)
Saheeh InternationalCursed were the companions of the trench
«قتل» لعن «أصحاب الأخدود» الشق في الأرض.
Yusuf AliFire supplied (abundantly) with fuel
Saheeh International[Containing] the fire full of fuel
«النار» بدل اشتمال منه «ذات الوقود» ما توقد به.
Yusuf AliBehold! they sat over against the (fire)
Saheeh InternationalWhen they were sitting near it
«إذ هم عليها» حولها على جانب الأخدود على الكراسي «قعود».
Yusuf AliAnd they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers
Saheeh InternationalAnd they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses
«وهم على ما يفعلون بالمؤمنين» بالله من تعذيبهم بالإلقاء في النار إن لم يرجعوا عن إيمانهم «شهود» حضور، رُوي أن الله أَنجى المؤمنين الملقين في النار بقبض أرواحهم قبل وقوعهم فيها وخرجت النار إلى من ثَمَّ فأحرقتهم.
Yusuf AliAnd they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in God, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise
Saheeh InternationalAnd they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy
«وما نقموا منهم إلا أن يؤمنوا بالله العزيز» في ملكه «الحميد» المحمود.
Yusuf AliHim to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And God is Witness to all things
Saheeh InternationalTo whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness
«الذي له ملك السماوات والأرض والله على كل شيءٍ شهيد» أي ما أنكر الكفار على المؤمنين إلا إيمانهم.
Yusuf AliThose who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire
«إن الذين فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات» بالإحراق «ثم لم يتوبوا فلهم عذاب جهنم» بكفرهم «ولهم عذاب الحريق» أي عذاب إحراقهم المؤمنين في الآخرة، وقيل في الدنيا بأن أخرجت النار فأحرقتهم كما تقدم.
Yusuf AliFor those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires)
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment
«إن الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات لهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار ذلك الفوز الكبير».
Yusuf AliTruly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe
«إن بطش ربك» بالكفار «لشديد» بحسب إرادته.
Yusuf AliIt is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life)
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats
«إنه هو يبدىءُ» الخلق «ويعيد» فلا يعجزه ما يريد.
Yusuf AliAnd He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness
Saheeh InternationalAnd He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate
«وهو الغفور» للمذنبين المؤمنين «الودود» المتودد إلى أوليائه بالكرامة.
Yusuf AliLord of the Throne of Glory
Saheeh InternationalHonorable Owner of the Throne
«ذو العرش» خالقه ومالكه «المجيد» بالرفع: المستحق لكمال صفات العلوّ.
Yusuf AliDoer (without let) of all that He intends
Saheeh InternationalEffecter of what He intends
«فعَّال لما يريد» لا يعجزه شيء.
Yusuf AliHas the story reached thee, of the forces
Saheeh InternationalHas there reached you the story of the soldiers
«هل أتاك» يا محمد «حديث الجنود».
Yusuf AliOf Pharaoh and the Thamud
Saheeh International[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud
«فرعون وثمود» بدل من الجنود واستغني بذكر فرعون عن أتباعه، وحديثهم أنهم أُهلكوا بكفرهم وهذا تنبيه لمن كفر بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم والقرآن ليتعظوا.
Yusuf AliAnd yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)
Saheeh InternationalBut they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial
«بل الذين كفروا في تكذيب» بما ذكر.
Yusuf AliBut God doth encompass them from behind
Saheeh InternationalWhile Allah encompasses them from behind
«والله من ورائهم محيط» لا عاصم لهم منه.
Yusuf AliDay, this is a Glorious Qur'an
Saheeh InternationalBut this is an honored Qur'an
«بل هو قرآن مجيد» عظيم.
Yusuf Ali(Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved
Saheeh International[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate
«في لوح» هو في الهواء فوق السماء السابعة «محفوظٍ» بالجر من الشياطين ومن تغيير شيء منه طوله ما بين السماء والأرض، وعرضه ما بين المشرق والمغرب، وهو من درة بيضاء، قاله ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما.
