26. Ash-Shu'araa سُورَةُ الشُّعَرَاءِ
Saheeh InternationalTa, Seen, Meem
Yusuf AliTa. Sin. Mim
«طسَمَ» الله أعلم بمراده بذلك.
Saheeh InternationalThese are the verses of the clear Book
Yusuf AliThese are verses of the Book that makes (things) clear
«تلك» أي هذه الآيات «آيات الكتاب» القرآن والإضافة بمعنى من «المبين» المظهر الحق من الباطل.
Saheeh InternationalPerhaps, [O Muhammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers
Yusuf AliIt may be thou frettest thy soul with grief, that they do not become Believers
«لعلك» يا محمد «باخعٌ نفسك» قاتلها غما من أجل «ألا يكونوا» أي أهل مكة «مؤمنين» ولعل هنا للإشفاق أي أشفق عليها بتخفيف هذا الغم.
Saheeh InternationalIf We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled
Yusuf AliIf (such) were Our Will, We could send down to them from the sky a Sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility
«إن نشأ ننزل عليهم من السماء آية فظلّت» بمعنى المضارع: أي تظل، أي تدوم «أعناقهم لها خاضعين» فيؤمنون، ولما وصفت الأعناق بالخضوع الذي هو لأربابها جمعت الصفة جمع العقلاء.
Saheeh InternationalAnd no revelation comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it
Yusuf AliBut there comes not to them a newly-revealed Message from (God) Most Gracious, but they turn away therefrom
«وما يأتيهم من ذكر» قرآن «من الرحمن مُحدّث» صفة كاشفة «إلا كانوا عنه معرضين».
Saheeh InternationalFor they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule
Yusuf AliThey have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at
«فقد كذبوا» به «فسيأتيهم أنباء» عواقب «ما كانوا به يستهزءُون».
Saheeh InternationalDid they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind
Yusuf AliDo they not look at the earth,- how many noble things of all kinds We have produced therein
«أوَلم يروا» ينظروا «إلى الأرض كم أنبتنا فيها» أي كثيرا «من كل زوجِ كريم» نوع حسن.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliVerily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«إن في ذلك لآية» دلالة على كمال قدرته تعالى «وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين» في علم الله، وكان قال سيبويه: زائدة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily, thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهو العزيز» ذو العزة ينتقم من الكافرين «الرحيم» يرحم المؤمنين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd [mention] when your Lord called Moses, [saying], "Go to the wrongdoing people
Yusuf AliBehold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity
«و» اذكر يا محمد لقومك «إذ نادى ربك موسى» ليلة رأى النار والشجرة «أن» أي: بأن «ائت القوم الظالمين» رسولا.
Saheeh InternationalThe people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allah
Yusuf AliThe people of the Pharaoh: will they not fear God
«قوم فرعون» معه ظلموا أنفسهم بالكفر بالله وبني إسرائيل باستعبادهم «ألا» الهمزة للاستفهام الإنكارى «يتقون» الله بطاعته فيوحدونه.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me
Yusuf AliHe said: "O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood
«قال» موسى «ربِ إني أخاف أن يكذّبون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron
Yusuf AliMy breast will be straitened. And my speech may not go (smoothly): so send unto Aaron
«ويضيق صدري» من تكذيبهم لي «ولا ينطلق لساني» بأداء الرسالة للعقدة التي فيه «فأرسل إلى» أخي «هارون» معي.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me
Yusuf AliAnd (further), they have a charge of crime against me; and I fear they may slay me
«ولهم عليَّ ذنبٌ» بقتل القبطي منهم «فأخاف أن يقتلون» به.
Saheeh International[Allah] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening
Yusuf AliGod said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call)
«قال» تعالى: «كلا» لا يقتلونك «فاذهبا» أي أنت وأخوك، ففيه تغليب الحاضر على الغائب «بآياتنا إنا معكم مستمعون» ما تقولون وما يقال لكم، أجريا مجرى الجماعة.
Saheeh InternationalGo to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliSo go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: 'We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds
«فأتِيَا فرعون فقولا إنا» كلاً منا «رسول رب العالمين» إليك.
Saheeh International[Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel
Yusuf AliSend thou with us the Children of Israel
«أن» أي: بأن «أرسل معنا» إلى الشام «بني إسرائيل» فأتياه فقالا له ما ذكر.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life
Yusuf Ali(Pharaoh) said: "Did we not cherish thee as a child among us, and didst thou not stay in our midst many years of thy life
«قال» فرعون لموسى «ألم نربِّك فينا» في منازلنا «وليدا» صغيرا قريبا من الولادة بعد فطامه «ولبثت فينا من عمرك سنين» ثلاثين سنة يلبس من ملابس فرعون ويركب من مراكبه وكان يسمى ابنه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful
Yusuf AliAnd thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)
«وفعلت فعلتك التي فعلت» هي قتله القبطي «وأنت من الكافرين» الجاحدين لنعمتي عليك بالتربية وعدم الاستعباد.
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray
Yusuf AliMoses said: "I did it then, when I was in error
«قال» موسى «فعلتها إذاً» أي حينئذ «وأنا من الضالين» عما آتاني الله بعدها من العلم والرسالة.
Saheeh InternationalSo I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers
Yusuf AliSo I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one of the apostles
«ففررتُ منكم لما خفتكم فوهب لي ربي حكما» علما «وجعلني من المرسلين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel
Yusuf AliAnd this is the favour with which thou dost reproach me,- that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel
«وتلك نعمةٌ تمنُّها عليَّ» أصله تمن بها عليَّ «أن عبدت بني إسرائيل» بيان لتلك: أي اتخذتهم عبيدا ولم تستعبدني لا نعمة لك بذلك لظلمك باستعبادهم وقدر بعضهم أول الكلام همزة استفهام للإنكار.
Saheeh InternationalSaid Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliPharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds
«قال فرعون» لموسى «وما رب العالمين» الذي قلت إنك رسوله أي: أي شيء هو ولما لم يكن سبيل للخلق إلى معرفة حقيقته تعالى وإنما يعرفونه بصفاته أجابه موسى عليه الصلاة والسلام ببعضها.
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced
Yusuf Ali(Moses) said: "The Lord and Cherisher of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- if ye want to be quite sure
«قال ربُّ السماوات والأرض وما بينهما» أي خالق ذلك «إن كنتم موقنين» بأنه تعالى خالقه فآمنوا به وحده.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear
Yusuf Ali(Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)
«قال» فرعون «لمن حوله» من أشراف قومه «ألا تستمعون» جوابه الذي لم يطابق السؤال.
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers
Yusuf Ali(Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning
«قال» موسى «ربكم ورب آبائكم الأولين» وهذا وإن كان داخلا فيما قبله يغيظ فرعون ولذلك.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad
Yusuf Ali(Pharaoh) said: "Truly your apostle who has been sent to you is a veritable madman
«قال إنَّ رسولكم الذي أرسل إليكم لمجنون».
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason
Yusuf Ali(Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense
«قال» موسى «ربُّ المشرق والمغرب وما بينهما إن كنتم تعقلون» إنه كذلك فآمنوا به وحده.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned
Yusuf Ali(Pharaoh) said: "If thou dost put forward any god other than me, I will certainly put thee in prison
«قال» فرعون لموسى «لئن اتخذت إلها غيري لأجعلنَّك من المسجونين» كان سجنه شديدا يحبس الشخص في مكان تحت الأرض وحده لا يبصر ولا يسمع فيه أحدا.
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest
Yusuf Ali(Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing
«قال» له موسى «أوَلوْ» أي: أتفعل ذلك ولو «جئتك بشيءٍ مبينِ» برهان بيِّن على رسالتي.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful
Yusuf Ali(Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth
«قال» فرعون له «فأتِ به إن كنت من الصادقين» فيه.
Saheeh InternationalSo [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest
Yusuf AliSo (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)
«فألقى عصاه فإذا هي ثعبانٌ مبينٌ» حية عظيمة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers
Yusuf AliAnd he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders
«ونزع يده» أخرجها من جيبه «فإذا هي بيضاء» ذات شعاع «للناظرين» خلاف ما كانت عليه من الأدمة.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician
Yusuf Ali(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well- versed
«قال» فرعون «للملإ حوله إنَّ هذا لساحر عليم» فائق في علم السحر.
Saheeh InternationalHe wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise
Yusuf AliHis plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel
«يريد أن يخرجكم من أرضكم بسحره فماذا تأمرون».
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers
Yusuf AliThey said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect
«قالوا أرجه وأخاه» أخّر أمرهما «وابعث في المدائن حاشرين» جامعين.
Saheeh InternationalWho will bring you every learned, skilled magician
Yusuf AliAnd bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed
«يأتوك بكل سَحَّار عليم» يفضل موسى في علم السحر.
Saheeh InternationalSo the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day
Yusuf AliSo the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known
«فجمع السحرة لميقات يوم معلوم» وهو وقت الضحى من يوم الزينة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd it was said to the people, "Will you congregate
Yusuf AliAnd the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled
«وقيل للناس هل أنتم مجتمعون».
Saheeh InternationalThat we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant
Yusuf AliThat we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win
«لعلنا نتبع السحرة إن كانوا هم الغالبين» الاستفهام للحث على الاجتماع والترجي على تقدير غلبتهم ليستمروا على دينهم فلا يتبعوا موسى.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant
Yusuf AliSo when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win
«فلما جاء السحرة قالوا لفرعون أئن» بتحقيق الهمزتين وتسهيل الثانية وإدخال ألف بينهما على الوجيهين «لنا لأجرا إن كنا نحن الغالبين».
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]
Yusuf AliHe said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)
«قال نعم وإنكم إذاً» أي حينئذ «لمن المقربين».
Saheeh InternationalMoses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw
Yusuf AliMoses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw
«قال لهم موسى» بعد ما قالوا له (إما أن تُلقي وإما أن نكون نحن الملقين) «ألقوا ما أنتم ملقون» فالأمر فيه للإذن بتقديم إلقائهم توسلا به إلى إظهار الحق.
Saheeh InternationalSo they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant
Yusuf AliSo they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win
«فألقوْا حبالهم وعصيهم وقالوا بعزة فرعون إنا لنحن الغالبون».
Saheeh InternationalThen Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified
Yusuf AliThen Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake
«فألقى موسى عصاه فإذا هي تلقف» بحذف إحدى التاءين من الأصل تبتلع «ما يأفكون» يقلبونه بتمويههم فيخيلون حبالهم وعصيهم أنها حيات تسعى.
Saheeh InternationalSo the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]
Yusuf AliThen did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration
«فألقيَ السحرة ساجدين».
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliSaying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds
«قالوا آمنا برب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalThe Lord of Moses and Aaron
Yusuf AliThe Lord of Moses and Aaron
«رب موسى وهارون» لعلمهم بأن ما شاهدوه من العصا لا يتأتى بالسحر.
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all
Yusuf AliSaid (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross
«قال» فرعون «أآمنتم» بتحقيق الهمزتين وإبدال الثانية ألفا «له» لموسى «قبل أن آذن» أنا «لكم إنه لكبيركم الذي علمكم السحر» فعلَّمك شيئا منه وغلبكم بآخر «فلسوف تعلمون» ما ينالكم مني «لأقطعنَّ أيديكم وأرجلكم من خلاف» أي يد كل واحد اليمنى ورجله اليسرى «ولأصلبنكم أجمعين».
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return
Yusuf AliThey said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord
«قالوا لا ضَيْرَ» لا ضرر علينا في ذلك «إنا إلى ربنا» بعد موتنا بأي وجه كان «منقلبون» راجعون في الآخرة.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers
Yusuf AliOnly, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers
«إنا نطمع» نرجوا «أن يغفر لنا ربنا خطايانا أن» أي بأن «كنَّا أول المؤمنين» في زماننا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued
Yusuf AliBy inspiration we told Moses: "Travel by night with my servants; for surely ye shall be pursued
«وأوحينا إلى موسى» بعد سنين أقامها بينهم يدعوهم بآيات الله إلى الحق فلم يزيدوا إلا عتوا «أن أسر بعبادي» بني إسرائيل وفي قراءة بكسر النون ووصل همزة أسر من سرى لغة في أسرى أي سر بهم ليلا إلى البحر «إنكم مُتَّبعون» يتبعكم فرعون وجنوده فيلجون وراءكم البحر فأنجيكم وأغرقهم.
Saheeh InternationalThen Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers
Yusuf AliThen Pharaoh sent heralds to (all) the Cities
«فأرسل فرعون» حين أخبر بسيرهم «في المدائن» قيل كان له ألف مدينة واثنا عشر ألف قرية «حاشرين» جامعين الجيش قائلا.
Saheeh International[And said], "Indeed, those are but a small band
Yusuf Ali(Saying): "These (Israelites) are but a small band
«إن هؤلاء لشرذمةٌ» طائفة «قليلون» قيل كانوا ستمائة ألف وسبعين ومقدمة جيشه سبعمائة ألف فقللهم بالنظر إلى كثرة جيشه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, they are enraging us
Yusuf AliAnd they are raging furiously against us
«وإنهم لنا لغائظون» فاعلون ما يغيظنا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, we are a cautious society
Yusuf AliBut we are a multitude amply fore-warned
«وإنا لجميعٌ حذرون» مستعدون وفي قراءة حاذرون متيقظون.
Saheeh InternationalSo We removed them from gardens and springs
Yusuf AliSo We expelled them from gardens, springs
قال تعالى: «فأخرجناهم» أي فرعون وقومه من مصر ليلحقوا موسى وقومه «من جنات» بساتين كانت على جانبي النيل «وعيون» أنهار جارية في الدور من النيل.
Saheeh InternationalAnd treasures and honorable station
Yusuf AliTreasures, and every kind of honourable position
«وكنوز» أموال ظاهرة من الذهب والفضة، وسميت كنوزا لأنه لم يعط حق الله تعالى منها «ومقامٍ كريمٍ» مجلس حسن للأمراء والوزراء يحفه أتباعهم.
Saheeh InternationalThus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel
Yusuf AliThus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things
«كذلك» أي إخراجنا كما وصفنا «وأورثناها بني إسرائيل» بعد إغراق فرعون وقومه.
Saheeh InternationalSo they pursued them at sunrise
Yusuf AliSo they pursued them at sunrise
«فأتبعوهم» لحقوهم «مشرقين» وقت شروق الشمس.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken
Yusuf AliAnd when the two bodies saw each other, the people of Moses said: "We are sure to be overtaken
«فلما تراءى الجمعان» رأى كل منهما الآخر «قال أصحاب موسى إنا لمدركون» يدركنا جمع فرعون ولا طاقة لنا به.
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me
Yusuf Ali(Moses) said: "By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me
«قال» موسى «كلا» أي لن يدركونا «إن معي ربي» ينصره «سيهدين» طريق النجاة.
Saheeh InternationalThen We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain
Yusuf AliThen We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain
قال تعالى: «فأوحينا إلى موسى أن اضرب بعصاك البحر» فضربه «فانفلق» فانشق اثنى عشر فرقا «فكان كل فرق كالطود العظيم» الجبل الضخم بينهما مسالك سلكوها لم يبتل منها سرج الراكب ولا لبده.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We advanced thereto the pursuers
Yusuf AliAnd We made the other party approach thither
«وأزلفنا» قرَّبنا «ثمَّ» هناك «الآخرين» فرعون وقومه حتى سلكوا مسالكهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We saved Moses and those with him, all together
Yusuf AliWe delivered Moses and all who were with him
«وأنجينا موسى ومن معه أجمعين» بإخراجهم من البحر على هيئته المذكورة.
Saheeh InternationalThen We drowned the others
Yusuf AliBut We drowned the others
«ثم أغرقنا الآخرين» فرعون وقومه بإطباق البحر عليهم لما تم دخولهم في البحر وخروج بني إسرائيل منه.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliVerily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«إن في ذلك» إغراق فرعون وقومه «لآيةٌ» عبرة لمن بعدهم «وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين» بالله لم يؤمن منهم غير آسية امرأة فرعون وحزقيل مؤمن آل فرعون ومريم بنت ناموصى التي دلت على عظام يوسف عليه السلام.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهو العزيز» فانتقم من الكافرين بإغراقهم «الرحيم» بالمؤمنين فأنجاهم من الغرق.
Saheeh InternationalAnd recite to them the news of Abraham
Yusuf AliAnd rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story
«واتل عليهم» أي كفار مكة «نبأ» خبر «إبراهيم» ويبدل منه.
Saheeh InternationalWhen he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship
Yusuf AliBehold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye
«إذا قال لأبيه وقومه ما تعبدون».
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted
Yusuf AliThey said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them
«قالوا نعبد أصناما» صرحوا بالفعل ليعطفوا عليه «فنظل لها عاكفين» نقيم نهارا على عبادتها زادوه في الجواب افتخارا به.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate
Yusuf AliHe said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)
«قال هل يسمعونكم إذ» حين «تدعون».
Saheeh InternationalOr do they benefit you, or do they harm
Yusuf Alior do you good or harm
«أو ينفعونكم» إن عبدتموهم «أو يضرونـ» كم إن لم تعبدوهم.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "But we found our fathers doing thus
Yusuf AliThey said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)
«قالوا بل وجدنا آباءنا كذلك يفعلون» أي مثل فعلنا.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping
Yusuf AliHe said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping
«قال أفرآيتم ما كنتم تعبدون».
Saheeh InternationalYou and your ancient forefathers
Yusuf AliYe and your fathers before you
«أنتم وآبائكم الأقدمون».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliFor they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds
«فإنهم عدو لي» لا أعبدهم «إلا» لكن «ربَّ العالمين» فإني أعبده.
Saheeh InternationalWho created me, and He [it is who] guides me
Yusuf AliWho created me, and it is He Who guides me
«الذي خلقني فهو يهدين» إلى الدين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd it is He who feeds me and gives me drink
Yusuf AliWho gives me food and drink
«والذي هو يطعمني ويسقين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd when I am ill, it is He who cures me
Yusuf AliAnd when I am ill, it is He Who cures me
«وإذا مرضت فهو يشفين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd who will cause me to die and then bring me to life
Yusuf AliWho will cause me to die, and then to life (again)
«والذي يُميتني ثم يحيين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense
Yusuf AliAnd who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment
«والذي أطمع» أرجو «أن يغفر لي خطيئتي يوم الدين» الجزاء.
Saheeh International[And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous
Yusuf AliO my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous
«رب هب لي حكما» علما «وألحقني بالصالحين» النبيين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd grant me a reputation of honor among later generations
Yusuf AliGrant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations)
«واجعل لي لسان صدق» ثناء حسنا «في الآخرين» الذين يأتون بعدي إلى يوم القيامة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure
Yusuf AliMake me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss
«واجعلني من ورثة جنة النعيم» ممن يعطاها.
Saheeh InternationalAnd forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray
Yusuf AliForgive my father, for that he is among those astray
«واغفر لأبي إنه كان من الضالين» بأن تتوب عليه فتغفر له وهذا قبل أن يتبين له أنه عدو لله كما ذكر في سورة براءة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected
Yusuf AliAnd let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up
«ولا تخزني» تفضحني «يوم يُبعثون» الناس.
Saheeh InternationalThe Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children
Yusuf AliThe Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail
قال تعالى فيه: «يوم لا ينفع مال ولا بنون» أحدا
Saheeh InternationalBut only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart
Yusuf AliBut only he (will prosper) that brings to God a sound heart
«إلا» لكن «من أتى الله بقلب سليم» من الشرك والنفاق وهو قلب المؤمن فإنه ينفعه ذلك.
Saheeh InternationalAnd Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous
Yusuf AliTo the righteous, the Garden will be brought near
«وأُزلفت الجنة» قربت «للمتقين» فيرونها.
Saheeh InternationalAnd Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators
Yusuf AliAnd to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view
«وبرزت الجحيم» أظهرت «للغاوين» الكافرين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship
Yusuf AliAnd it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped
«وقيل لهم أين ما كنتم تعبدون».
Saheeh InternationalOther than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves
Yusuf AliBesides God? Can they help you or help themselves
«من دون الله» أي غيره من الأصنام «هل ينصرونكم» بدفع العذاب عنكم «أو ينتصرون» بدفعه عن أنفسهم، لا.
Saheeh InternationalSo they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators
Yusuf AliThen they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil
«فكُبْكِبوا» ألقوا «فيها هم والغاوون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd the soldiers of Iblees, all together
Yusuf AliAnd the whole hosts of Iblis together
«وجنود إبليس» أتباعه، ومن أطاعه من الجن والإنس «أجمعون».
Saheeh InternationalThey will say while they dispute therein
Yusuf AliThey will say there in their mutual bickerings
«قالوا» أي الغاوون «وهم فيها يختصمون» مع معبوديهم.
Saheeh InternationalBy Allah, we were indeed in manifest error
Yusuf AliBy God, we were truly in an error manifest
«تالله إن» مخففة من الثقلية واسمها محذوف أي إنه «كنا لفي ضلال مبين» بين.
Saheeh InternationalWhen we equated you with the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliWhen we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds
«إذ» حيث «نسويكم برب العالمين» في العبادة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd no one misguided us except the criminals
Yusuf AliAnd our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt
«وما أضلنا» عن الهدى «إلا المجرمون» أي الشياطين أو أوّلونا الذين اقتدينا بهم.
Saheeh InternationalSo now we have no intercessors
Yusuf AliNow, then, we have none to intercede (for us)
«فما لنا من شافعين» كما للمؤمنين من الملائكة والنبيين والمؤمنين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd not a devoted friend
Yusuf AliNor a single friend to feel (for us)
«ولا صديق حميم» يهمه أمرنا.
Saheeh InternationalThen if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers
Yusuf AliNow if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe
«فلو أن لنا كرَّة» رجعة إلى الدنيا «فنكون من المؤمنين» لو هنا للتمني ونكون جوابه.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliVerily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe
«إن في ذلك» المذكور من قصة إبراهيم وقومه «لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهم العزيز الرحيم».
Saheeh InternationalThe people of Noah denied the messengers
Yusuf AliThe people of Noah rejected the apostles
«كذبت قوم نوح المرسلين» بتكذيبهم له لاشتراكهم في المجيء بالتوحيد، أو لأنه لطول لبثه فيهم كأنه رسل وتأنيث قوم باعتبار معناه وتذكيره باعتبار لفظه.
Saheeh InternationalWhen their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allah
Yusuf AliBehold, their brother Noah said to them: "Will ye not fear (God)
«إذ قال لهم أخوهم» نسبا «نوح ألا تتقون» الله.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger
Yusuf AliI am to you an apostle worthy of all trust
«إني لكم رسول أمين» على تبليغ ما أرسلت به.
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliSo fear God, and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون» فيما آمركم به من توحيد الله وطاعته.
Saheeh InternationalAnd I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliNo reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds
«وما أسألكم عليه» على تبليغه «من أجر إن» ما «أجريَ» أي ثوابي «إلا على رب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliSo fear God, and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون» كرره تأكيدا.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]
Yusuf AliThey said: "Shall we believe in thee when it is the meanest that follow thee
«قالوا أنؤمن» نصدق «لك» لقولك «واتبعك» وفي قراءة وأتباعك جمع تابع مبتدأ «الأرذلون» السفلة كالحاكة والأساكفة.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do
Yusuf AliHe said: "And what do I know as to what they do
«قال وما علمي» أيّ علم لي «بما كانوا يعلمون».
Saheeh InternationalTheir account is only upon my Lord, if you [could] perceive
Yusuf AliTheir account is only with my Lord, if ye could (but) understand
«إن» ما «حسابهم إلا على ربي» فيجازيهم «لو تشعرون» تعلمون ذلك ما عبَّدتموهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd I am not one to drive away the believers
Yusuf AliI am not one to drive away those who believe
«وما أنا بطارد المؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalI am only a clear warner
Yusuf AliI am sent only to warn plainly in public
«إن» ما «أنا إلا نذير مبين» بيَّن الإنذار.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned
Yusuf AliThey said: "If thou desist not, O Noah! thou shalt be stoned (to death)
«قالوا لئن لم تنته يا نوح» عما تقول لنا «لتكونن من المرجومين» بالحجارة أو بالشتم.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me
Yusuf AliHe said: "O my Lord! truly my people have rejected me
«قال» نوح «رب إن قومي كذبون».
Saheeh InternationalThen judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers
Yusuf AliJudge Thou, then, between me and them openly, and deliver me and those of the Believers who are with me
«فافتح بيني وبينهم فتحا» أي احكم «ونجني ومن معي من المؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalSo We saved him and those with him in the laden ship
Yusuf AliSo We delivered him and those with him, in the Ark filled (with all creatures)
قال تعالى «فأنجيناه ومن معه في الفلك المشحون» المملوء من الناس والحيوان والطير.
Saheeh InternationalThen We drowned thereafter the remaining ones
Yusuf AliThereafter We drowned those who remained behind
«ثم أغرقنا بعد» بعد إنجائهم «الباقين» من قومه.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliVerily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«إن ذلك لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم».
Saheeh InternationalAad denied the messengers
Yusuf AliThe 'Ad (people) rejected the apostles
«كذبت عادٌ المرسلين».
Saheeh InternationalWhen their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah
Yusuf AliBehold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (God)
«إذ قال لهم أخوهم هود ألا تتقون».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger
Yusuf AliI am to you an apostle worthy of all trust
«إني لكم رسول أمين».
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliSo fear God and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliNo reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds
«وما أسألكم عليه من أجر إن» ما «أجري إلا على رب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalDo you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves
Yusuf AliDo ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves
«أتبنون بكل ريع» مكان مرتفع «آية» بنا علما للمارة «تعبثون» ممن يمر بكم وتسخرون منهم والجملة حال من ضمير تبنون.
Saheeh InternationalAnd take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally
Yusuf AliAnd do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)
«وتتخذون مصانع» للماء تحت الأرض «لعلكم» كأنكم «تخلدون» فيها لا تموتون.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when you strike, you strike as tyrants
Yusuf AliAnd when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power
«وإذا بطشتم» بضرب أو قتل «بطشتم جبارين» من غير رأفة.
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliNow fear God, and obey me
«فاتقوا الله» في ذلك «وأطيعون» فيما أمرتكم به.
Saheeh InternationalAnd fear He who provided you with that which you know
Yusuf AliYea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know
«واتقوا الذي أمدكم» أنعم عليكم «بما تعملون».
Saheeh InternationalProvided you with grazing livestock and children
Yusuf AliFreely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons
«أمدكم بأنعام وبنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd gardens and springs
Yusuf AliAnd Gardens and Springs
«وجنات» بساتين «وعيون» أنهار.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day
Yusuf AliTruly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day
«إني أخاف عليكم عذاب يوم عظيم» في الدنيا والآخرة إن عصيتموني.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors
Yusuf AliThey said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers
«قالوا سواء علينا» مستو عندنا «أوعظت أم لم تكن من الواعظين» أصلا أي لا نرعوي لوعظك.
Saheeh InternationalThis is not but the custom of the former peoples
Yusuf AliThis is no other than a customary device of the ancients
«إن» ما «هذا» الذي خوفنا به «إلا خَلْق الأولين» اختلافهم وكذبهم وفي قراءة بضم الخاء واللام أي ما هذا الذي نحن عليه من إنكار للبعث إلا خلق الأولين أي طبيعتهم وعادتهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd we are not to be punished
Yusuf AliAnd we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties
«وما نحن بمعذبين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliSo they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«فكذبوه» بالعذاب «فأهلكناهم» في الدنيا بالريح «إن في ذلك لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
««إن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم».
Saheeh InternationalThamud denied the messengers
Yusuf AliThe Thamud (people) rejected the apostles
«كذبت ثمود المرسلين».
Saheeh InternationalWhen their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah
Yusuf AliBehold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (God)
«إذ قال لهم أخوهم صالح ألا تتقون».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger
Yusuf AliI am to you an apostle worthy of all trust
«إني لكم رسول أمين».
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliSo fear God, and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliNo reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds
«وما أسألكم عليه من أجر إن» ما «أجري إلا على رب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalWill you be left in what is here, secure [from death]
Yusuf AliWill ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here
«أتتركون في ما ههنا» من الخيرات «آمنين».
Saheeh InternationalWithin gardens and springs
Yusuf AliGardens and Springs
«في جنات وعيون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit
Yusuf AliAnd corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)
«وزروع ونخل طلعها هضيم» لطيف لين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill
Yusuf AliAnd ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill
«وتنحتون من الجبال بيوتا فرهين» بطرين وفي قراءة فارهين حاذقين.
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliBut fear God and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون» فيما أمرتكم به.
Saheeh InternationalAnd do not obey the order of the transgressors
Yusuf AliAnd follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant
«ولا تطيعوا أمر المسرفين».
Saheeh InternationalWho cause corruption in the land and do not amend
Yusuf AliWho make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)
«الذين يفسدون في الأرض» بالمعاصي «ولا يصلحون» بطاعة الله.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "You are only of those affected by magic
Yusuf AliThey said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched
«قالوا إنما أنت من المسحرين» الذين سحروا كثيرا حتى غلب على عقلهم.
Saheeh InternationalYou are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful
Yusuf AliThou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth
«ما أنت» أيضا «إلا بشر مثلنا فأت بآية إن كنتم من الصادقين» في رسالتك.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day
Yusuf AliHe said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed
«قال هذه ناقة لها شرب» نصيب من الماء «ولكم شرب يوم معلوم».
Saheeh InternationalAnd do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day
Yusuf AliTouch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you
«ولا تمسوها بسوء فيأخذكم عذاب يوم عظيم» بعظم العذاب.
Saheeh InternationalBut they hamstrung her and so became regretful
Yusuf AliBut they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets
«فعقروها» عقرها بعضهم برضاهم «فأصبحوا نادمين» على عقرها.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliBut the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«فأخذهم العذاب» الموعود به فهلكوا «إن في ذلك لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم».
Saheeh InternationalThe people of Lot denied the messengers
Yusuf AliThe people of Lut rejected the apostles
«كذبت قوم لوط المرسلين».
Saheeh InternationalWhen their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allah
Yusuf AliBehold, their brother Lut said to them: "Will ye not fear (God)
«إذ قال لهم أخوهم لوط ألا تتقون».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger
Yusuf AliI am to you an apostle worthy of all trust
«إني لكم رسول أمين».
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliSo fear God and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliNo reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds
«وما أسألكم عليه من أجر إن» ما «أجري إلا على رب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalDo you approach males among the worlds
Yusuf AliOf all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males
«أتأتون الذكران من العالمين» الناس.
Saheeh InternationalAnd leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing
Yusuf AliAnd leave those whom God has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)
«وتذرون ما خلق لكم ربكم من أزواجكم» أي أقبالهن «بل أنتم قوم عادون» متجاوزون الحلال إلى الحرام.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted
Yusuf AliThey said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out
«قالوا لئن لم تنته يا لوط» عن إنكارك علينا «لتكونن من المخرجين» من بلدتنا.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it]
Yusuf AliHe said: "I do detest your doings
«قال» لوط «إني لعملكم من القالين» المبغضين.
Saheeh InternationalMy Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do
Yusuf AliO my Lord! deliver me and my family from such things as they do
«رب نجني وأهلي مما يعلمون» أي من عذابه.
Saheeh InternationalSo We saved him and his family, all
Yusuf AliSo We delivered him and his family,- all
«فنجيناه وأهله أجمعين».
Saheeh InternationalExcept an old woman among those who remained behind
Yusuf AliExcept an old woman who lingered behind
«إلا عجوزا» امرأته «في الغابرين» الباقين أهلكناها.
Saheeh InternationalThen We destroyed the others
Yusuf AliBut the rest We destroyed utterly
«ثم دمرنا الآخرين» أهلناهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned
Yusuf AliWe rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)
«وأمطرنا عليهم مطرا» حجارة من جملة الإهلاك «فساء مطر المنذرين» مطرهم.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliVerily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«إن في ذلك لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم».
Saheeh InternationalThe companions of the thicket denied the messengers
Yusuf AliThe Companions of the Wood rejected the apostles
«كذب أصحاب الأيكة» وفي قراءة بحذف الهمزة وإلقاء حركتها على اللام وفتح الهاء: هي غيضة شجر قرب مدين «المرسلين».
Saheeh InternationalWhen Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah
Yusuf AliBehold, Shu'aib said to them: "Will ye not fear (God)
«إذ قال لهم شعيب» لم يقل أخوهم لأنه لم يكن منهم «ألا تتقون».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger
Yusuf AliI am to you an apostle worthy of all trust
«إني لكم رسول أمين».
Saheeh InternationalSo fear Allah and obey me
Yusuf AliSo fear God and obey me
«فاتقوا الله وأطيعون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliNo reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds
«وما أسألكم عليه من أجر إن» ما «أجري إلا على رب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalGive full measure and do not be of those who cause loss
Yusuf AliGive just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud)
«أوْفوا الكيل» أتموه «ولا تكونوا من المخسرين» الناقصين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd weigh with an even balance
Yusuf AliAnd weigh with scales true and upright
«وزنوا بالقسطاس المستقيم» الميزان السوي.
Saheeh InternationalAnd do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption
Yusuf AliAnd withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief
«ولا تبخسوا الناس أشياءهم» لا تنقصوهم من حقهم شيئا «ولا تعثوْا في الأرض مفسدين» بالقتل وغيره من عَثِيَ بكسر المثلثة أفسد ومفسدين حال مؤكدة لمعنى عاملها.
Saheeh InternationalAnd fear He who created you and the former creation
Yusuf AliAnd fear Him Who created you and (who created) the generations before (you)
«واتقوا الذي خلقكم والجبلة» الخليقة «الأولين».
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "You are only of those affected by magic
Yusuf AliThey said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched
«قالوا إنما أنت من المسحرين».
Saheeh InternationalYou are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars
Yusuf AliThou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar
«وما أنت إلا بشر مثلنا وإن» مخففة من الثقيلة واسمها محذوف أي إنه «نظنك لمن الكاذبين».
Saheeh InternationalSo cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful
Yusuf AliNow cause a piece of the sky to fall on us, if thou art truthful
«فأسقط علينا كسْفا» بسكون السين وفتحها قطعا «من السماء إن كنت من الصادقين» في رسالتك.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do
Yusuf AliHe said: "My Lord knows best what ye do
«قال ربي أعلم بما تعملون» فيجازيكم به.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day
Yusuf AliBut they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day
«فكذبوه فأخذهم عذاب يوم الظلة» هي سحابة أظلتهم بعد حر شديد أصابهم فأمطرت عليهم نارا فاحترقوا «إنه كان عذاب يوم عظيم».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
Yusuf AliVerily in that is a Sign: but most of them do not believe
«إن في ذلك لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful
«وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, the Qur'an is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliVerily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds
«وإنه» أي القرآن «لتنزيل رب العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalThe Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down
Yusuf AliWith it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth
«نزل به الروح الأمين» جبريل.
Saheeh InternationalUpon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners
Yusuf AliTo thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish
«على قلبك لتكون من المنذرين».
Saheeh InternationalIn a clear Arabic language
Yusuf AliIn the perspicuous Arabic tongue
«بلسان عربي مبين» بيَّن وفي قراءة بتشديد نزل ونصب الروح والفاعل الله.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples
Yusuf AliWithout doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples
«وإنه» ذكر القرآن المنزل على محمد «لفي زُبُر» كتب «الأولين» كالتوراة والإنجيل.
Saheeh InternationalAnd has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel
Yusuf AliIs it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)
«أو لم يكن لهم» لكفار مكة «آية» على ذلك «أن يعلمه علماء بني إسرائيل» كعبد الله بن سلام وأصحابه من الذين آمنوا فإنهم يخبرون بذلك، ويكن بالتحتانية ونصب آية وبالفوقانية ورفع آية.
Saheeh InternationalAnd even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners
Yusuf AliHad We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs
«ولو نزلناه على بعض الأعجمين» جمع أعجم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it
Yusuf AliAnd had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it
«فقرأه عليهم» كفار مكة «ما كانوا به مؤمنين» أنفة من اتباعه.
Saheeh InternationalThus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals
Yusuf AliThus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners
«كذلك» أي مثل إدخالنا التكذيب به بقراءة الأعجمي «سلكناه» أدخلنا التكذيب به «في قلوب المجرمين» كفار مكة بقراءة النبي.
Saheeh InternationalThey will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment
Yusuf AliThey will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty
«لا يؤمنون به حتى يروا العذاب الأليم».
Saheeh InternationalAnd it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not
Yusuf AliBut the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not
«فيأتيهم بغتة وهم لا يشعرون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd they will say, "May we be reprieved
Yusuf AliThen they will say: "Shall we be respited
«فيقولوا هل نحن منظرون» لنؤمن فيقال لهم: لا قالوا: متى هذا العذاب، قال تعالى.
Saheeh InternationalSo for Our punishment are they impatient
Yusuf AliDo they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on
«أفبعذابنا يستعجلون».
Saheeh InternationalThen have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years
Yusuf AliSeest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years
«أفرأيت» أخبرني «إن متَّعناهم سنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd then there came to them that which they were promised
Yusuf AliYet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised
«ثم جاءهم ما كانوا يوعدون» من العذاب.
Saheeh InternationalThey would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided
Yusuf AliIt will profit them not that they enjoyed (this life)
«ما» إستفهامية بمعنى: أي شيء «أغنى عنهم ما كانوا يمتعون» في دفع العذاب أو تخفيفه أي: لم يغن.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We did not destroy any city except that it had warners
Yusuf AliNever did We destroy a population, but had its warners
«وما أهلكنا من قرية إلا لها منذرون» رسل تنذر أهلها.
Saheeh InternationalAs a reminder; and never have We been unjust
Yusuf AliBy way of reminder; and We never are unjust
«ذكرى» عظة لهم «وما كنا ظالمين» في إهلاكهم بعد إنذارهم ونزل ردا لقول المشركين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the devils have not brought the revelation down
Yusuf AliNo evil ones have brought down this (Revelation)
«وما تنزلت به» بالقرآن «الشياطين».
Saheeh InternationalIt is not allowable for them, nor would they be able
Yusuf AliIt would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it)
«وما ينبغي» يصلح «لهم» أن ينزلوا به «وما يستطيعون» ذلك.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed
Yusuf AliIndeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it
«إنهم عن السمع» لكلام الملائكة «لمعزولون» بالشهب.
Saheeh InternationalSo do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished
Yusuf AliSo call not on any other god with God, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty
«فلا تدع مع الله إلها آخر فتكون من المعذبين» إن فعلت ذلك الذي دعوك إليه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred
Yusuf AliAnd admonish thy nearest kinsmen
(وأنذر عشيرتك الأقربين) وهم بنو هاشم وبنو عبد المطلب "" وقد أنذرهم جهارا "" رواه البخاري ومسلم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers
Yusuf AliAnd lower thy wing to the Believers who follow thee
«واخفض جناحكْ» ألن جانبك «لمن اتبعك من المؤمنين» الموحدين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing
Yusuf AliThen if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do
«فإن عصوك» عشيرتك «فقل» لهم «إني بريء مما تعملون» من عبادة غير الله.
Saheeh InternationalAnd rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
Yusuf AliAnd put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
«وتوكل» بالواو والفاء «على العزيز الرحيم» الله أي فوض إليه جميع أمورك.
Saheeh InternationalWho sees you when you arise
Yusuf AliWho seeth thee standing forth (in prayer)
«الذي يراك حين تقوم» إلى الصلاة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd your movement among those who prostrate
Yusuf AliAnd thy movements among those who prostrate themselves
«وتقلبك» في أركان الصلاة قائما وقاعدا وراكعا وساجدا «في الساجدين» المصلين.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing
Yusuf AliFor it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things
«إنه هو السميع العليم».
Saheeh InternationalShall I inform you upon whom the devils descend
Yusuf AliShall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend
«هل أنبئكم» يا كفرا مكة «على من تنزل الشياطين» بحذف إحدى التاءين من الأصل.
Saheeh InternationalThey descend upon every sinful liar
Yusuf AliThey descend on every lying, wicked person
«تنزل على كل أفاك» كذاب «أثيم» فاجر مثل مسيلمة وغيره من الكهنة.
Saheeh InternationalThey pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars
Yusuf Ali(Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars
«يلقون» الشياطين «السمع» ما سمعوه من الملائكة إلى الكهنة «وأكثرهم كاذبون» يضمنون إلى المسموع كذبا وكان هذا قبل أن حجبت الشياطين عن السماء.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the poets - [only] the deviators follow them
Yusuf AliAnd the Poets,- It is those straying in Evil, who follow them
«والشعراء يتبعهم الغاوون» في شعرهم فيقولن به ويرونه عنهم فهم مذمومون.
Saheeh InternationalDo you not see that in every valley they roam
Yusuf AliSeest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley
«ألم تر» تعلم «أنهم في كل واد» من أودية الكلام وفنونه «يهيمون» يمضون فيجازون الحد مدحا وهجاء.
Saheeh InternationalAnd that they say what they do not do
Yusuf AliAnd that they say what they practise not
«وأنهم يقولون» فعلنا «مالا يفعلون» يكذبون.
Saheeh InternationalExcept those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah often and defend [the Muslims] after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned
Yusuf AliExcept those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of God, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take
«إلا الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات» من الشعراء. «وذكروا الله كثيرا» لم يشغلهم الشعر عن الذكر «وانتصروا» بهجوهم الكفار «من بعد ما ظلموا» بهجو الكفار لهم في جملة المؤمنين فليسو مذمومين قال الله تعالى: (لا يحب الله الجهر بالسوء من القول إلا من ظلم) وقال تعالى (فمن اعتدى عليكم فاعتدوا عليه بمثل ما اعتدي عليكم) «وسيعلم الذين ظلموا» من الشعراء وغيرهم «أي منقلب» مرجع «ينقلبون» يرجعون بعد الموت.
