37. As-Saaffaat سُورَةُ الصَّافَّاتِ
Saheeh InternationalBy those [angels] lined up in rows
Yusuf AliBy those who range themselves in ranks
«والصافات صفّا» الملائكة تصف نفوسها في العبادة أو أجنحتها في الهواء تنتظر ما تؤمر به.
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who drive [the clouds]
Yusuf AliAnd so are strong in repelling (evil)
«فالزاجرات زجرا» الملائكة تزجر السحاب أي تسوقه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who recite the message
Yusuf AliAnd thus proclaim the Message (of God)
«فالتاليات» أي قراء القرآن يتلونه «ذكرا» مصدر من معنى التاليات.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, your God is One
Yusuf AliVerily, verily, your God is one
«إن إلهكم» يا أهل مكة «لواحد».
Saheeh InternationalLord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises
Yusuf AliLord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun
«ربُّ السماوات والأرض وما بينهما وربُّ المشارق» أي والمغارب للشمس، لها كل يوم مشرق ومغرب.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
Yusuf AliWe have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars
«إنَّا زينا السماء الدنيا بزينة الكواكب» أي بضوئها أو بها، والإضافة للبيان كقراءة تنوين زينة المبينة بالكواكب.
Saheeh InternationalAnd as protection against every rebellious devil
Yusuf Ali(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits
«وحفظا» منصوب بفعل مقدر: أي حفظناها بالشهب «من كل» متعلق بالمقدر «شيطان مارد» عاتٍ خارج عن الطاعة.
Saheeh International[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side
Yusuf Ali(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side
«لا يسمعون» أي الشياطين مستأنف، وسماعهم هو في المعنى المحفوظ عنه «إلى الملأ الأعلى» الملائكة في السماء، وعدِّي السماع بإلى لتضمنه معنى الإصغاء وفي قراءة بتشديد الميم والسين أصله يتسمعون أدغمت التاء في السين «ويقذفون» أي الشياطين بالشهب «من كل جانب» من آفاق السماء.
Saheeh InternationalRepelled; and for them is a constant punishment
Yusuf AliRepulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty
«دُحُورا» مصدر دحره: أي طرده وأبعده وهو مفعول له «ولهم» في الآخرة «عذاب واصب» دائم.
Saheeh InternationalExcept one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]
Yusuf AliExcept such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness
«إلا من خطف الخطفة» مصدر: أي المرة، والاستثناء من ضمير يسمعون: أي لا يسمع إلا الشيطان الذي سمع الكلمة من الملائكة فأخذها بسرعة «فأتبعه شهاب» كوكب مضيء «ثاقب» يثقبه أو يحرقه أو يخبله.
Saheeh InternationalThen inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay
Yusuf AliJust ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay
«فاستفتهم» استخبر كفار مكة تقريرا أو توبيخا «أهم أشد خلقا أم من خلقنا» من الملائكة والسماوات والأرضين وما فيهما وفي الإتيان بمن تغليب العقلاء «إنا خلقناهم» أي أصلهم آدم «من طين لازب» لازم يلصق باليد: المعنى أن خلقهم ضعيف فلا يتكبروا بإنكار النبي والقرآن المؤدي إلى هلاكهم اليسير.
Saheeh InternationalBut you wonder, while they mock
Yusuf AliTruly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule
«بل» للانتقال من غرض إلى آخر وهو الإخبار بحاله وحالهم «عجبتَ» بفتح التاء خطابا للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، أي من تكذيبهم إياك «و» هم «يسخرون» من تعجبك.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when they are reminded, they remember not
Yusuf AliAnd, when they are admonished, pay no heed
«وإذا ذكروا» وعظوا بالقرآن «لا يذكرون» لا يتعظون.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when they see a sign, they ridicule
Yusuf AliAnd, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery
«وإذا رأوْا آية» كانشقاق القمر «يستسخرون» يستهزئُون بها.
Saheeh InternationalAnd say, "This is not but obvious magic
Yusuf AliAnd say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery
«وقالوا» فيها «إن» ما «هذا إلا سحر مبين» بيّن وقالوا منكرين للبعث.
Saheeh InternationalWhen we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected
Yusuf AliWhat! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again)
«أئذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظاما أئنا لمبعوثون» في الهمزتين في الموضوعين التحقيق وتسهيل الثانية وإدخال ألف بينهما على الوجهين.
Saheeh InternationalAnd our forefathers [as well]
Yusuf AliAnd also our fathers of old
«أوْ آباؤنا الأولون» بسكون الواو عطفا بأو، وبفتحها والهمزة للاستفهام والعطف بالواو والمعطوف عليه محل إن واسمها أو الضمير في لمبعوثون والفاصل همزة الاستفهام.
Saheeh InternationalSay, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible
Yusuf AliSay thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)
«قل نعم» تبعثون «وأنتم داخرون» أي صاغرون.
Saheeh InternationalIt will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing
Yusuf AliThen it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see
«فإنما هي» ضمير مبهم يفسره «زجرة» أي صيحة «واحدة فإذا هم» أي الخلائق أحياء «ينظرون» ما يفعل بهم.
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense
Yusuf AliThey will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment
«وقالوا» أي الكفار «يا» للتنبيه «ويْلنا» هلاكنا، وهو مصدر لا فعل له من لفظه وتقول لهم الملائكة: «هذا يوم الدين» يوم الحساب والجزاء.
Saheeh International[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny
Yusuf Ali(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied
«هذا يوم الفصل» بين الخلائق «الذي كنتم به تكذبون» ويقال للملائكة.
Saheeh International[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
Yusuf AliBring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped
«أُحشروا الذين ظلموا» أنفسهم بالشرك «وأزواجهم» قرناءهم من الشياطين «وما كانوا يعبدون».
Saheeh InternationalOther than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
Yusuf AliBesides God, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire
«من دون الله» أي غيره من الأوثان «فاهدوهم» دلوهم وسوقوهم «إلى صراط الجحيم» طريق النار.
Saheeh InternationalAnd stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned
Yusuf AliBut stop them, for they must be asked
«وقفوهم» احبسوهم عن الصراط «إنهم مسئولون» عن جميع أقوالهم، ويقال لهم توبيخا.
Saheeh International[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other
Yusuf AliWhat is the matter with you that ye help not each other
«ما لكم لا تناصرون» لا ينصر بعضكم بعضا كحالكم في الدنيا ويقال لهم.
Saheeh InternationalBut they, that Day, are in surrender
Yusuf AliNay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment)
«بل هم اليوم مستسلمون» منقادون أذلاء.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they will approach one another blaming each other
Yusuf AliAnd they will turn to one another, and question one another
«وأقبل بعضهم على بعض يتساءلون» يتلاومون ويتخاصمون.
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right
Yusuf AliThey will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)
«قالوا» أي الأتباع منهم للمتبوعين «إنكم كنتم تأتوننا عن اليمين» عن الجهة التي كنا نأمنكم منها لحلفكم أنكم على الحق فصدقناكم واتبعناكم، المعنى أنكم أضللتمونا.
Saheeh InternationalThe oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers
Yusuf AliThey will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith
«قالوا» أي المتبعون لهم «بل لم تكونوا مؤمنين» وإنما يصدق الإضلال منا أن لو كنتم مؤمنين فرجعتم عن الإيمان إلينا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people
Yusuf AliNor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion
«وما كان لنا عليكم من سلطان» قوة وقدرة تقهركم على متابعتنا «بل كنتم قوما طاغين» ضالين مثلنا.
Saheeh InternationalSo the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]
Yusuf AliSo now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins)
(فحق) وجب (علينا) جميعا (قول ربنا) بالعذاب: أي قوله "" لأملأن جهنم من الجنة والناس أجمعين "" (إنا) جميعا (لذائقون) العذاب بذلك القول ونشأ عنه قولهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators
Yusuf AliWe led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray
«فأغويناكم» المعلل بقولهم «إنا كنا غاوين».
Saheeh InternationalSo indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment
Yusuf AliTruly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty
قال تعالى «فإنهم يومئذ» يوم القيامة «في العذاب مشتركون» أي لاشتراكهم في الغواية.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, that is how We deal with the criminals
Yusuf AliVerily that is how We shall deal with Sinners
«إنا كذلك» كما نفعل بهؤلاء «نفعل بالمجرمين» غير هؤلاء: أي نعذبهم التابع منهم والمتبوع.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant
Yusuf AliFor they, when they were told that there is no god except God, would puff themselves up with Pride
«إنهم» أي هؤلاء بقرينة ما بعده «كانوا إذا قيل لهم لا إله إلا الله يستكبرون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet
Yusuf AliAnd say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed
«ويقولون أئنا» في همزتيه ما تقدم «لتاركوا آلهتنا لشاعر مجنون» أي لأجل محمد.
Saheeh InternationalRather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers
Yusuf AliNay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the apostles (before him)
قال تعالى: «بل جاء بالحق وصدَّق المرسلين» الجائين به، وهو أن لا إله إلا الله.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment
Yusuf AliYe shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty
«إنكم» فيه التفات «لذائقوا العذاب الأليم».
Saheeh InternationalAnd you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do
Yusuf AliBut it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought
«وما تجزوْن إلا» جزاء «ما كنتم تعملون».
Saheeh InternationalBut not the chosen servants of Allah
Yusuf AliBut the sincere (and devoted) Servants of God
«إلا عباد الله المخلصين» أي المؤمنين استثناء منقطع، أي ذكر جزائهم في قوله.
Saheeh InternationalThose will have a provision determined
Yusuf AliFor them is a Sustenance determined
«أولئك لهم» في الجنة «رزق معلوم» بكرة وعشيا.
Saheeh InternationalFruits; and they will be honored
Yusuf AliFruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity
«فواكه» بدل أو بيان للرزق وهو ما يؤكل تلذذا لحفظ صحة لأن أهل الجنة مستغنون عن حفظها بخلق أجسامهم للأبد «وهم مكرمون» بثواب الله سبحانه وتعالى.
Saheeh InternationalIn gardens of pleasure
Yusuf AliIn Gardens of Felicity
«في جنات النعيم».
Saheeh InternationalOn thrones facing one another
Yusuf AliFacing each other on Thrones (of Dignity)
«على سرر متقابلين» لا يرى بعضهم قفا بعض.
Saheeh InternationalThere will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring
Yusuf AliRound will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain
«يطاف عليهم» على كل منهم «بكأس» هو الإناء بشرابه «من معين» من خمر يجري على وجه الأرض كأنهار الماء.
Saheeh InternationalWhite and delicious to the drinkers
Yusuf AliCrystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof)
«بيضاء» أشد بياضا من اللبن «لذة» لذيذة «للشاربين» بخلاف خمر الدنيا فإنها كريهة عند الشرب.
Saheeh InternationalNo bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated
Yusuf AliFree from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom
«لا فيها غول» ما يغتال عقولهم «ولا هم عنها ينزَِفون» بفتح الزاي وكسرها من نزف الشارب وأنزف: أي يسكرون بخلاف خمر الدنيا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes
Yusuf AliAnd besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty)
«وعندهم قاصرات الطرْف» حابسات الأعين على أزواجهن لا ينظرن إلى غيرهم لحسنهم عندهن «عين» ضخام الأعين حسانها.
Saheeh InternationalAs if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected
Yusuf AliAs if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded
«كأنهن» في اللون «بيض» للنعام «مكنون» مستور بريشه لا يصل إليه غبار، ولونه وهو البياض في صفرة، أحسن ألوان النساء.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they will approach one another, inquiring of each other
Yusuf AliThen they will turn to one another and question one another
«فأقبل بعضهم» بعض أهل الجنة «على بعض يتساءلون» عما مر بهم في الدنيا.
Saheeh InternationalA speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
Yusuf AliOne of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth)
«قال قائل منهم إني كان لي قرين» صاحب ينكر البعث.
Saheeh InternationalWho would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
Yusuf AliWho used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)
«يقول» لي تبكيتا «أئنك لمن المصدقين» بالبعث.
Saheeh InternationalThat when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed
Yusuf AliWhen we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments
«أئذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظاما أئنا» في الهمزتين في الثلاثة مواضع ما تقدم «لمدينون» مجزيون ومحاسبون؟ أنكر ذلك أيضا.
Saheeh InternationalHe will say, "Would you [care to] look
Yusuf Ali(A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down
«قال» ذلك القائل لإخوانه: «هل أنتم مطلعون» معي إلى النار لننظر حاله؟ فيقولون: لا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire
Yusuf AliHe looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire
«فاطلع» ذلك القائلون من بعض كوى الجنة «فرآه» أي رأى قرينه «في سواء الجحيم» في وسط النار.
Saheeh InternationalHe will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me
Yusuf AliHe said: "By God! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition
«قال» له تشميتا «تالله إن» مخففة من الثقيلة «كدت» قاربت «لتردين» لتهلكني بإغوائك.
Saheeh InternationalIf not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]
Yusuf AliHad it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)
«ولو لا نعمة ربي» عليَّ بالإيمان «لكنت من المحضرين» معك في النار وتقول أهل الجنة.
Saheeh InternationalThen, are we not to die
Yusuf AliIs it (the case) that we shall not die
«أفما نحن بميتين».
Saheeh InternationalExcept for our first death, and we will not be punished
Yusuf AliExcept our first death, and that we shall not be punished
«إلا موتتنا الأولى» أي التي في الدنيا «وما نحن بمعذبين» هو استفهام تلذذ وتحدُّث بنعمة الله تعالى من تأبيد الحياة وعدم التعذيب.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, this is the great attainment
Yusuf AliVerily this is the supreme achievement
«إن هذا» الذي ذكرت لأهل الجنة «لهو الفوز العظيم».
Saheeh InternationalFor the like of this let the workers [on earth] work
Yusuf AliFor the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive
«لمثل هذا فليعمل العاملون» قيل يقال لهم ذلك، وقيل هم يقولونه.
Saheeh InternationalIs Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum
Yusuf AliIs that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum
«أذلك» المذكور لهم «خير نزلا» وهو ما يعدّ للنازل من ضيف وغيره «أم شجرة الزقوم» المعدة لأهل النار وهي من أخبث الشجر المرّ بتهامة ينبتها الله في الجحيم كما سيأتي.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers
Yusuf AliFor We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers
«إنا جعلناها» بذلك «فتنة للظالمين» أي الكافرين من أهل مكة، إذ قالوا: النار تحرق الشجر فكيف تنبته.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire
Yusuf AliFor it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire
«إنها شجرة تخرج في أصل الجحيم» أي قعر جهنم، وأغصانها ترتفع إلى دركاتها.
Saheeh InternationalIts emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils
Yusuf AliThe shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils
«طلعها» المشبه بطلع النخل «كأنه رءوس الشياطين» الحيات القبيحة المنظر.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies
Yusuf AliTruly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith
«فإنهم» أي الكفار «لآكلون منها» مع قبحها لشدة جوعهم «فمالئون منها البطون».
Saheeh InternationalThen indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water
Yusuf AliThen on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water
«ثم إن لهم عليها لشوبا من حميم» أي ماء حار يشربونه فيختلط بالمأكول منها فيصير شوبا له.
Saheeh InternationalThen indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire
Yusuf AliThen shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire
«ثم إن مرجعهم لإلى الجحيم» يفيد أنهم يخرجون منها لشرب الحميم وأنه خارجها.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed they found their fathers astray
Yusuf AliTruly they found their fathers on the wrong Path
«إنهم ألفوْا» وجدوا «آباءهم ضالين».
Saheeh InternationalSo they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps
Yusuf AliSo they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps
«فهم على آثارهم يُهرعون» يزعجون إلى اتباعهم فيسرعون إليه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples
Yusuf AliAnd truly before them, many of the ancients went astray
«ولقد ضل قبلهم أكثر الأولين» من الأمم الماضية.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had already sent among them warners
Yusuf AliBut We sent aforetime, among them, (apostles) to admonish them
«ولقد أرسلنا فيهم منذرين» من الرسل مخوِّفين.
Saheeh InternationalThen look how was the end of those who were warned
Yusuf AliThen see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not)
«فانظر كيف كان عاقبة المنذَرين» الكافرين: أي عاقبتهم العذاب.
Saheeh InternationalBut not the chosen servants of Allah
Yusuf AliExcept the sincere (and devoted) Servants of God
«إلا عباد الله المخلصين» أي المؤمنين فإنهم نجوا من العذاب لإخلاصهم في العبادة، أو لأن الله أخلصهم لها على قراءة فتح اللام.
Saheeh InternationalAnd Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders
Yusuf Ali(In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer
(ولقد نادانا نوح) بقوله "" رب إني مغلوب فانتصر "" (فلنعم المجيبون) له نحن: أي دعانا على قومه فأهلكناهم بالغرق.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We saved him and his family from the great affliction
Yusuf AliAnd We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity
«ونجيناه وأهله من الكرب العظيم» أي الغرق.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
Yusuf AliAnd made his progeny to endure (on this earth)
«وجعلنا ذريته هم الباقين» فالناس كلهم من نسله وكان له ثلاثة أولاد: سام وهو أبو العرب والفرس والروم، وحام وهو أبو السودان، ويافث وهو أبو الترك والخزر ويأجوج ومأجوج وما هنالك.
Saheeh InternationalAnd left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
Yusuf AliAnd We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times
«وتركنا» أبقينا «عليه» ثناء حسنا «في الآخرين» من الأنبياء والأمم إلى يوم القيامة.
Saheeh InternationalPeace upon Noah among the worlds
Yusuf AliPeace and salutation to Noah among the nations
«سلام» منا «على نوح في العالمين».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We thus reward the doers of good
Yusuf AliThus indeed do we reward those who do right
«إنا كذلك» كما جزيناهم «نجزي المحسنين».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, he was of Our believing servants
Yusuf AliFor he was one of our believing Servants
«إنه من عبادنا المؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalThen We drowned the disbelievers
Yusuf AliThen the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood
«ثم أغرقنا الآخرين» كفار قومه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, among his kind was Abraham
Yusuf AliVerily among those who followed his Way was Abraham
«وإن من شيعته» أي ممن تابعه في أصل الدين «لإبراهيم» وإن طال الزمان بينهما وهو ألفان وستمائة وأربعون سنة وكان بينهما هود وصالح.
Saheeh InternationalWhen he came to his Lord with a sound heart
Yusuf AliBehold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart
«إذ جاء ربهَّ» أي تابعه وقت مجيئه «بقلب سليم» من الشك وغيره.
Saheeh International[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship
Yusuf AliBehold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship
«إذ قال» في هذه الحالة المستمرة له «لأبيه وقومه» موبخا «ماذا» ما الذي «تعبدون».
Saheeh InternationalIs it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire
Yusuf AliIs it a falsehood- gods other than God- that ye desire
«أئفكا» في همزتيه ما تقدم «آلهة دون الله تريدون» وإفكا مفعول له، وآلهة مفعول به لتريدون والإفك: أسوأ الكذب، أي أتعبدون غير الله؟.
Saheeh InternationalThen what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf AliThen what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds
«فما ظنكم برب العالمين» إذ عبدتم غيره أنه يترككم بلا عقاب؟ لا، وكانوا نجامين، فخرجوا إلى عيد لهم وتركوا طعامهم عند أصنامهم زعموا التبرك عليه فإذا رجعوا أكلوه، وقالوا للسيد: اخرج معنا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he cast a look at the stars
Yusuf AliThen did he cast a glance at the Stars
«فنظر نظرة في النجوم» إيهاما لهم أنه يعتمد عليها ليعتمدوه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill
Yusuf AliAnd he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)
«فقال إني سقيم» عليل أي سأسقم.
Saheeh InternationalSo they turned away from him, departing
Yusuf AliSo they turned away from him, and departed
«فتولوا عنه» إلى عيدهم «مدبرين».
Saheeh InternationalThen he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat
Yusuf AliThen did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)
«فراغ» مال في خفية «إلى آلهتهم» وهي الأصنام وعندها الطعام «فقال» استهزاءً «ألا تأكلون» فلم ينطقوا.
Saheeh InternationalWhat is [wrong] with you that you do not speak
Yusuf AliWhat is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)
فقال «ما لكم لا تنطقون» فلم يجب.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand
Yusuf AliThen did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand
«فراغ عليهم ضربا باليمين» بالقوة فكسرها فبلغ قومه ممن رآه.
Saheeh InternationalThen the people came toward him, hastening
Yusuf AliThen came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him)
«فأقبلوا إليه يزفون» أي يسرعون المشي فقالوا له: نحن نعبدها وأنت تكسرها.
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve
Yusuf AliHe said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved
«قال» لهم موبخا «أتعبدون ما تنحتون» من الحجارة وغيرها أصناما.
Saheeh InternationalWhile Allah created you and that which you do
Yusuf AliBut God has created you and your handwork
«والله خلقكم وما تعملون» من نحتكم ومنحوتكم فاعبدوه وحده، وما مصدرية وقيل موصولة وقيل موصوفة.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire
Yusuf AliThey said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire
«قالوا» بينهم «ابنوا له بنيانا» فاملئوه حطبا وأضرموه بالنار فإذا التهب «فألقوه في الجحيم» النار الشديدة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased
Yusuf Ali(This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated
«فأرادوا به كيدا» بإلقائه في النار لتهلكه «فجعلناهم الأسفلين» المقهورين فخرج من النار سالما.
Saheeh InternationalAnd [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me
Yusuf AliHe said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me
«وقال إني ذاهب إلى ربي» مهاجر إليه من دار الكفر «سيهدين» إلى حيث أمرني ربي بالمصير إليه وهو الشام فلما وصل إلى الأرض المقدسة قال.
Saheeh InternationalMy Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous
Yusuf AliO my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)
«رب هب لي» ولدا «من الصالحين».
Saheeh InternationalSo We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy
Yusuf AliSo We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear
«فبشرناه بغلام حليم» أي ذي حلم كثير.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast
Yusuf AliThen, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if God so wills one practising Patience and Constancy
«فلما بلغ معه السعي» أي أن يسعى معه ويعينه قيل بلغ سبع سنين وقيل ثلاث عشرة سنة «قال يا بنيَّ إني أرى» أي رأيت «في المنام أني أذبحك» ورؤيا الأنبياء حق وأفعالهم بأمر الله تعالى «فانظر ماذا ترى» من الرأي شاوره ليأنس بالذبح وينقاد للأمر به «قال يا أبت» التاء عوض عن ياء الإضافة «افعل ما تؤمر» به «ستجدني إن شاء الله من الصابرين» على ذلك.
Saheeh InternationalAnd when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead
Yusuf AliSo when they had both submitted their wills (to God), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice)
«فلما أسلما» خضعا وانقادا لأمر الله تعالى «وتله للجبين» صرعه عليه، ولكل إنسان جبينان بينهما الجبهة وكان ذلك بمنى، وأمرَّ السكين على حلقه فلم تعمل شيئا بمانع من القدرة الإلهية.
Saheeh InternationalWe called to him, "O Abraham
Yusuf AliWe called out to him "O Abraham
«وناديناه أن يا إبراهيم».
Saheeh InternationalYou have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
Yusuf AliThou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right
«قد صدقت الرؤيا» بما أتيت به مما أمكنك من أمر الذبح: أي يكفيك ذلك فجملة ناديناه جواب لما بزيادة الواو «إنا كذلك» كما جزيناك «نجزي المحسنين» لأنفسهم بامتثال الأمر بإفراج الشدة عنهم.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, this was the clear trial
Yusuf AliFor this was obviously a trial
«إن هذا» الذبح المأمور به «لهو البلاء المبين» أي الاختبار الظاهر.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We ransomed him with a great sacrifice
Yusuf AliAnd We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice
«وفديناه» أي المأمور بذبحه، وهو إسماعيل أو إسحاق قولان «بذبح» بكبش «عظيم» من الجنة وهو الذي قربه هابيل جاء به جبريل عليه السلام فذبحه السيد إبراهيم مكبرا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
Yusuf AliAnd We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times
«وتركنا» أبقينا «عليه في الآخرين» ثناءً حسنا.
Saheeh InternationalPeace upon Abraham
Yusuf AliPeace and salutation to Abraham
«سلام» منا «على إبراهيم».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We thus reward the doers of good
Yusuf AliThus indeed do We reward those who do right
«كذلك» كما جزيناه «نجزي المحسنين» لأنفسهم.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, he was of Our believing servants
Yusuf AliFor he was one of our believing Servants
«إنه من عبادنا المؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous
Yusuf AliAnd We gave him the good news of Isaac - a prophet,- one of the Righteous
«وبشرناه بإسحاق» استدلَّ بذلك على أن الذبح غيره «نبيا» حال مقدرة: أي يوجد مقدرا نبوته «من الصالحين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself
Yusuf AliWe blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls
«وباركنا عليه» بكثير ذريته «وعلى إسحاق» ولده بجعلنا أكثر الأنبياء من نسله «ومن ذريتهما محسن» مؤمن «وظالم لنفسه» كافر «مبين» بيَّن الكفر.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron
Yusuf AliAgain (of old) We bestowed Our favour on Moses and Aaron
«ولقد مننا على موسى وهارون» بالنبوة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We saved them and their people from the great affliction
Yusuf AliAnd We delivered them and their people from (their) Great Calamity
«ونجيناهما وقومهما» بني إسرائيل «من الكرب العظيم» أي استعباد فرعون إياهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We supported them so it was they who overcame
Yusuf AliAnd We helped them, so they overcame (their troubles)
«ونصرناهم» على القبط «فكانوا هم الغالبين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd We gave them the explicit Scripture
Yusuf AliAnd We gave them the Book which helps to make things clear
«وآتيناهما الكتاب المستبين» البليغ البيان فيما أتى به من الحدود والأحكام وغيرها وهو التوراة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We guided them on the straight path
Yusuf AliAnd We guided them to the Straight Way
«وهديناهما الصراط» الطريق «المستقيم».
Saheeh InternationalAnd We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations
Yusuf AliAnd We left (this blessing) for them among generations (to come) in later times
«وتركنا» أبقينا «عليهما في الآخرين» ثناءً حسنا.
Saheeh InternationalPeace upon Moses and Aaron
Yusuf AliPeace and salutation to Moses and Aaron
«سلام» منا «على موسى وهارون».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We thus reward the doers of good
Yusuf AliThus indeed do We reward those who do right
«إنا كذلك» كما جزيناهما «نجزي المحسنين».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, they were of Our believing servants
Yusuf AliFor they were two of our believing Servants
«إنهما من عبادنا المؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, Elias was from among the messengers
Yusuf AliSo also was Elias among those sent (by Us)
«وإن إلياس» بالهمزة أوله وتركه «لمن المرسلين» قيل هو ابن أخي هارون أخي موسى، وقيل غيره أرسل إلى قوم ببعلبك ونواحيها.
Saheeh InternationalWhen he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allah
Yusuf AliBehold, he said to his people, "Will ye not fear (God)
«إذ» منصوب باذكر مقدرا «قال لقومه ألا تتقون» الله.
Saheeh InternationalDo you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators
Yusuf AliWill ye call upon Baal and forsake the Best of Creators
«أتدعون بعلا» اسم صنم لهم من ذهب، وبه سمي البلد أيضا مضافا إلى بك: أي أتعبدونه «وتذرون» تتركون «أحسن الخالقين» فلا تعبدونه.
Saheeh InternationalAllah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers
Yusuf AliGod, your Lord and Cherisher and the Lord and Cherisher of your fathers of old
«اللهُ ربُّكم وربُّ آبائكم الأولين» برفع الثلاثة على إضمار هو، وبنصبها على البدل من أحسن.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment]
Yusuf AliBut they rejected him, and they will certainly be called up (for punishment)
«فكذبوه فإنهم لمحضرون» في النار.
Saheeh InternationalExcept the chosen servants of Allah
Yusuf AliExcept the sincere and devoted Servants of God (among them)
«إلا عباد الله المخلصين» أي المؤمنين منهم فإنهم نجوا منها.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
Yusuf AliAnd We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times
«وتركنا عليه في الآخرين» ثناءً حسنا.
Saheeh InternationalPeace upon Elias
Yusuf AliPeace and salutation to such as Elias
«سلام» منا «على إلْ ياسين» قيل هو إلياس المتقدم ذكره، وقيل هو ومن آمن معه فجمعوا معه تغليبا كقولهم للمهلب وقومه المهلبون وعلى قراءة آل ياسين بالمد، أي أهله المراد به إلياس أيضا.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We thus reward the doers of good
Yusuf AliThus indeed do We reward those who do right
«إنا كذلك» كما جزيناه «نجزي المحسنين».
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, he was of Our believing servants
Yusuf AliFor he was one of our believing Servants
«إنه من عبادنا المؤمنين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, Lot was among the messengers
Yusuf AliSo also was Lut among those sent (by Us)
«وإن لوطا لمن المرسلين».
Saheeh International[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all
Yusuf AliBehold, We delivered him and his adherents, all
اذكر «إذ نجيناه وأهله أجمعين».
Saheeh InternationalExcept his wife among those who remained [with the evildoers]
Yusuf AliExcept an old woman who was among those who lagged behind
«إلا عجوزا في الغابرين» أي الباقين في العذاب.
Saheeh InternationalThen We destroyed the others
Yusuf AliThen We destroyed the rest
«ثم دمرنا» أهلكنا «الآخرين» كفار قومه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, you pass by them in the morning
Yusuf AliVerily, ye pass by their (sites), by day
«وإنكم لتمرون عليهم» على آثارهم ومنازلهم في أسفاركم «مصبحين» أي وقت الصباح يعني بالنهار.
Saheeh InternationalAnd at night. Then will you not use reason
Yusuf AliAnd by night: will ye not understand
«وبالليل أفلا تعقلون» يا أهل مكة ما حل بهم فتعتبرون به.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, Jonah was among the messengers
Yusuf AliSo also was Jonah among those sent (by Us)
«وإن يونس لمن المرسلين».
Saheeh International[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship
Yusuf AliWhen he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden
«إذْ أبق» هرب «إلى الفلك المشحون» السفينة المملوءة حين غاضب قومه لما لم ينزل بهم العذاب الذي وعدهم به فركب السفينة فوقفت في لجة البحر، فقال الملاحون هنا عبد أبق من سيده تظهره القرعة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he drew lots and was among the losers
Yusuf AliHe (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned
«فساهم» قارع أهل السفينة «فكان من المدحضين» المغلوبين بالقرعة فألقوه في البحر.
Saheeh InternationalThen the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy
Yusuf AliThen the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame
«فالتقمه الحوت» ابتلعه «وهو مليم» أي آت بما يلام عليه من ذهابه إلى البحر وركوبه السفينة بلا إذن من ربه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd had he not been of those who exalt Allah
Yusuf AliHad it not been that he (repented and) glorified God
(فلولا أنه كان من المسبحين) الذاكرين بقوله كثيرا في بطن الحوت "" لا إله إلا أنت سبحانك إني كنت من الظالمين "".
Saheeh InternationalHe would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected
Yusuf AliHe would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection
«للبث في بطنه إلى يوم يبعثون» لصار بطن الحوت قبرا له إلى يوم القيامة.
Saheeh InternationalBut We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill
Yusuf AliBut We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness
«فنبذناه» أي ألقيناه من بطن الحوت «بالعراء» بوجه الأرض: أي بالساحل من يومه أو بعد ثلاثة أو سبعة أيام أو عشرين أو أربعين يوما «وهو سقيم» العليل كالفرخ الممعط.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We caused to grow over him a gourd vine
Yusuf AliAnd We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind
«وأنبتنا عليه شجرة من يقطين» وهي القرع تظله بساق على خلاف العادة في القرع معجزة له، وكانت تأتيه وعلة صباحا ومساء يشرب من لبنها حتى قوي.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more
Yusuf AliAnd We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more
«وأرسلناه» بعد ذلك كقبله إلى قوم بنينوى من أرض الموصل «إلى مائة ألف أو» بل «يزيدون» عشرين أو ثلاثين أو سبعين ألفا.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time
Yusuf AliAnd they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while
«فآمنوا» عند معاينة العذاب الموعودين به «فمتعناهم» أبقيناهم ممتعين بمالهم «إلى حين» تنقضي آجالهم فيه.
Saheeh InternationalSo inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons
Yusuf AliNow ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons
«فاستفتهم» استخبر كفار مكة توبيخا لهم «ألربك البنات» بزعمهم أن الملائكة بنات الله «ولهم البنون» فيختصون بالأسنى.
Saheeh InternationalOr did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses
Yusuf AliOr that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)
«أم خلقنا الملائكة إناثا وهم شاهدون» خلقنا فيقولون ذلك.
Saheeh InternationalUnquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say
Yusuf AliIs it not that they say, from their own invention
«ألا أنهم من إفكهم» كذبهم «ليقولون» بقولهم الملائكة بنات الله.
Saheeh InternationalAllah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars
Yusuf AliGod has begotten children"? but they are liars
«ولد الله» بقولهم الملائكة بنات الله «وإنهم لكاذبون» فيه.
Saheeh InternationalHas He chosen daughters over sons
Yusuf AliDid He (then) choose daughters rather than sons
«أصطفى» بفتح الهمزة للاستفهام واستغني بها عن همزة الوصل فحذفت، أي أختار «البنات على البنين».
Saheeh InternationalWhat is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement
Yusuf AliWhat is the matter with you? How judge ye
«ما لكم كيف تحكمون» هذا الحكم الفاسد.
Saheeh InternationalThen will you not be reminded
Yusuf AliWill ye not then receive admonition
«أفلا تذَّكرون» بإدغام التاء في الذال، أنه سبحانه وتعالى منزه عن الولد.
Saheeh InternationalOr do you have a clear authority
Yusuf AliOr have ye an authority manifest
«أم لكم سلطان مبين» حجة واضحة أن لله ولدا.
Saheeh InternationalThen produce your scripture, if you should be truthful
Yusuf AliThen bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful
«فأتوا بكتابكم» التوراة فأروني ذلك فيه «إن كنتم صادقين» في قولكم ذلك.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]
Yusuf AliAnd they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment- Seat)
«وجعلوا» أي المشركون «بينه» تعالى «وبين الجنة» أي الملائكة لاجتنانهم عن الأبصار «نسبا» بقولهم إنها بنات الله «ولقد علمت الجنَّة إنهم» أي قائلي ذلك «لمحضرون» للنار يعذبون فيها.
Saheeh InternationalExalted is Allah above what they describe
Yusuf AliGlory to God! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)
«سبحان الله» تنزيها له «عما يصفون» بأن لله ولدا.
Saheeh InternationalExcept the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]
Yusuf AliNot (so do) the Servants of God, sincere and devoted
«إلا عباد الله المخلصين» أي المؤمنين استثناء منقطع أي فإنهم ينزهون الله تعالى عما يصفه هؤلاء.
Saheeh InternationalSo indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship
Yusuf AliFor, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship
«فإنكم وما تعبدون» من الأصنام.
Saheeh InternationalYou cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
Yusuf AliCan lead (any) into temptation concerning God
«ما أنتم عليه» أي على معبودكم عليه متعلق بقوله «بفاتنين» أي أحدا.
Saheeh InternationalExcept he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire
Yusuf AliExcept such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire
«إلا من هو صال الجحيم» في علم الله تعالى.
Saheeh International[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position
Yusuf Ali(Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed
قال جبريل للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم «وما منا» معشر الملائكة أحد «إلا له مقام معلوم» في السماوات يعبد الله فيه لا يتجاوزه.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]
Yusuf AliAnd we are verily ranged in ranks (for service)
«وإنا لنحن الصَّافون» أقدامنا في الصلاة.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, we are those who exalt Allah
Yusuf AliAnd we are verily those who declare (God's) glory
«وإنا لنحن المسبحون» المنزهون الله عما لا يليق به.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, the disbelievers used to say
Yusuf AliAnd there were those who said
«وإن» مخففة من الثقيلة «كانوا» أي كفار مكة «ليقولون».
Saheeh InternationalIf we had a message from [those of] the former peoples
Yusuf AliIf only we had had before us a Message from those of old
«لو أن عندنا ذكرا» كتابا «من الأولين» أي من كتب الأمم الماضية.
Saheeh InternationalWe would have been the chosen servants of Allah
Yusuf AliWe should certainly have been Servants of God, sincere (and devoted)
«لكنا عباد الله المخلصين» العابدة له.
Saheeh InternationalBut they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know
Yusuf AliBut (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know
قال تعالى: «فكفروا به» بالكتاب الذي جاءهم وهو القرآن الأشرف من ذلك الكتب «فسوف يعلمون» عاقبة كفرهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers
Yusuf AliAlready has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us)
(ولقد سبقت كلمتنا) بالنصر (لعبادنا المرسلين) وهي "" لأغلبن أنا ورسلي "".
Saheeh International[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
Yusuf AliThat they would certainly be assisted
أو هي قوله «إنهم لهم المنصورون».
Saheeh InternationalAnd [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome
Yusuf AliAnd that Our forces,- they surely must conquer
«وإن جندنا» أي المؤمنين «لهم الغالبون» الكفار بالحجة والنصرة عليهم في الدنيا، وإن لم ينتصر بعض منهم في الدنيا ففي الآخرة.
Saheeh InternationalSo, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time
Yusuf AliSo turn thou away from them for a little while
«فتول عنهم» أي أعرض عن كفار مكة «حتى حين» تؤمر فيه بقتالهم.
Saheeh InternationalAnd see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see
Yusuf AliAnd watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)
«وأبصرهم» إذ نزل بهم العذاب «فسوف يبصرون» عاقبة كفرهم.
Saheeh InternationalThen for Our punishment are they impatient
Yusuf AliDo they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment
فقالوا استهزاء: متى نزول هذا العذاب؟ قال تعالى تهديدا لهم: «أفبعذابنا يستعجلون».
Saheeh InternationalBut when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned
Yusuf AliBut when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)
«فإذا نزل بساحتهم» بفنائهم قال الفراء: العرب تكتفي بذكر الساحة عن القوم «فَساء» بئس صباحا «صباح المنذَرين» فيه إقامة الظاهر مقام المضمر.
Saheeh InternationalAnd leave them for a time
Yusuf AliSo turn thou away from them for a little while
«وتول عنهم حتى حين».
Saheeh InternationalAnd see, for they are going to see
Yusuf AliAnd watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)
